LOAN EXTENSION

Manchester United striker Federico Macheda, who moved to Doncaster Rovers on a loan deal has said that he is keen to extend the loan spell with the Championship club. He will be at the club for only a month before he may return to Manchester United, but after playing regularly since his move, he is keen on staying at the second division club. The Italian made his debut in the 2-1 win over Watford during the weekend. This victory helped the club moving to the 17th place in the table. They now have secured two wins in the last five matches.

Even though he may want to stay until the end of the season, it is highly unlikely that the loan deal will be extended to that far. Macheda has told BBC sport that he would be happy even with an extension until January. The striker is out of contract at the end of the season and it is highly likely that he will not be a Manchester United player next season. After making his debut in the most sensational manner against Aston Villa, he has found first-team opportunities limited at Old Trafford. The last few loans spells at the likes of Sampdoria and QPR have also not been successful for the 22-year-old.

“It would be a shame to be here just a month. If I can stay until January, that would be great. I’m really looking forward to more playing time. I think it was the best move for me. Another championship club was interested – I had a few to be fair – but I gave my word to Doncaster and I’m glad to be here. Nobody knows the future but the most important thing is to play regularly now, score some goals and win some games with Doncaster,” said Macheda.
