It has been revealed that Manchester United have agreed a deal with Benfica to sign 24-year-old midfielder Nicolás Gaitán in the summer.
Manchester United will be paying £ 20 million, while they will also be losing two players to Benfica as part of the deal. It has been revealed that United will be sending Fabio Da Silva on a loan deal till the end of the season, while striker Federico Macheda is likely to move to the Portuguese club on a permanent basis. Even though Manchester United have not revealed the details of the transfer, it has emerged that United are almost certain to complete the deal in the summer.
It will finally bring an end to the three-year stay at Manchester United for Italian striker Federico Macheda. He moved to QPR this season on loan deal, but was used sparingly by the new manager Mark Hughes before returning to United after suffering an injury. Even though Federico Macheda made his debut in the match against Aston Villa by scoring, his form has certainly dipped over the last few seasons. As a result, he has been sent out on loan to various clubs, although he has not been having any successful loan spells. The 20-year-old will be hoping for regular game time at Portuguese club Benfica.
United left back Fabio Da Silva, meanwhile, will not be moving to Benfica on a permanent deal, but it will be a loan deal till the end of the season in order to provide the Brazilian with the experience of playing regular European football.
“Fabio will go on loan next season to give him concentrated first-team experience, like Diouf has doen at Napoli. We have already talked to him and he understands the value of playing regularly at a higher level than we can give him at the moment,” said Ferguson recently.
