Former Manchester United striker Federico Macheda says that his countryman Matteo Darmian will be a huge success at Old Trafford. The defender has been brought in from Torino for around £ 13 million. He is one of the few Italian players to represent United.
Macheda appeared to get on the list quite soon after becoming a sensational hit in just a few months after making his debut. However, his career path has turned down the wrong way in the last few years due to a succession of injuries and bad luck. He is now with Championship outfit Cardiff City after having moved here on a permanent basis following his release from United.
It was expected that the 23-year-old would return to the Italian Serie A in the hope that his home country would help him revive his form and career. However, he has not chosen to take the same risk that he took with his move to Sampdoria, which did not work out at all. At Cardiff City, he continues to remain an important part of the squad even though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – the man who signed him – is no longer at the club. Russell Slade has kept Macheda as a key part of the plans going into the new campaign.
“Matteo must certainly expect great things when joining a world-class club. I wish him all the best and feel he is ready for this adventure.Wearing the Red Devils jersey is certainly a big responsibility, because you feel this scary weight of history on your shoulders and realise that every time you pull the shirt on.Darmian has character and if he finds consistency then I am sure he’ll settle in very well. English football is much more physical and in his role it’s important to push forward as well as defend, but his characteristics already suit that,” said the striker.
