Cardiff City failed to win in the last five matches of all competitions after a 4-2 defeat against Watford at home. This has increased pressure on manager Russell Slade, who has been coming under from criticism from his own supporters.
However, he feels that it is only a matter of time before the fans start feeling happy about the team. He says that victories should help them achieve this. Slade has targeted a win in the FA Cup match against Colchester United at home in order to break the run of matches without a win. Cardiff’s last victory was back in November when they won 1-0 against Watford.
As a result of this poor form, the prospect of getting back to the Premier League in the first instance is starting to slip away.
The club are now mid-table in the Championship when they need to make up at least nine points in order to close the gap on the clubs chasing a play-off spot. The poor run of form has also seen attendances drop incredibly. Cardiff are set to attract just over 4000 spectators for the match against Colchester United. This is a sharp drop from the average crowds of around 27,000 last season.
“If we can start winning matches and get some momentum, then people will come back I’m sure. You want an atmosphere, you want it to be very difficult for the opposition when they come here.Playing at home should be an advantage but, clearly, when the crowd’s not like that, it’s not such an advantage.
I can’t make people come and watch the team. My focus is on the team and how we’re doing. It’s just after Christmas and it’s on TV, it’s been an expensive time for most people. It’s difficult,” said Slade. Cardiff take on Fulham in the next league match.
