Manchester United striker Federico Macheda was part of the team that lost in the League Cup quarter-finals to Crystal Palace. Manchester United would had the chance to go into the semifinals of cup competition, but were denied by a brilliant Crystal Palace side.
After failing to take his chances, Federico Macheda apologist on Twitter that he was extremely sorry for the Manchester United fans, who had to see United lose at home to lower League opposition. Even though Federico Macheda converted a penalty, which gave United the advantage, he was not able to take the other chances presented to him.
The penalty was extremely crucial in that it provided Manchester United with the opportunity to take the game into extra time. However, it was Crystal Palace who performed exceptionally well in the extra time to snatch a late winner, thus meaning that United never got the chance to take the game to penalties. Federico Macheda made his debut for Manchester United in 2008, but has not been in the first-team picture in the last few years. In fact, he spent the majority of last season on loan.
His return to the first team action this season meant that he would be played in the Carling cup matches, which turned out to be true against Crystal Palace.
However, it remains to be seen if Federico Macheda will be able to make it into Sir Alex Ferguson’s first-team plans. After the defeat, Federico Macheda said: “We have to move on from yesterday! These things happen to every team! And Saturday we’re looking to bring back a victory vs villa! I feel bad for all our fans! That wasn’t a man u performance! Sorry lads! I understand your pain!!!”
The injury to Javier Hernandez, though, is crucial for Federico Macheda’s chances at Old Trafford.
